Septic Tank Pumping

Your septic tank must be pumped regularly. How often your septic tank must be pumped is determined by:

The physical size of your tank ( its volume ), the number of people it supports, the frequency of showers, laundry, flushing, etc., how much inorganic material is introduced, the design and condition of your leaching field and the type of soil in the area of your leaching field.

To prevent problems, you should have your septic tank cleaned (or pumped) every two to four years. If you use a garbage disposal, your septic tank should be cleaned more frequently. Failure to do so can cause premature failure, expensive repairs and in some instances total replacement.

Failing septic systems are expensive to repair or replace, and poor maintenance is a common cause of early system failures.  Typically cost to replace a septic system range from $3000 to $10,000.   Compared to approximately $225 to $300 to have it pumped.

When septic systems fail, inadequately treated household wastewater is released into the environment. Any contact with untreated human waste can pose significant health risks, and untreated wastewater from failing septic systems can contaminate nearby wells, groundwater, and drinking water sources. Chemicals improperly released through a septic system also can pollute local water sources and can contribute to system failures.
